Economic Development

For those leading  economic development efforts, how can you effectively attract corporate investment to help fuel growth?

This process ultimately starts with leads – that is, identifying the companies that fit best with your area’s strategic advantages.  Identifying these companies at the earliest stage possible is crucial.

You can’t wait for that overseas  company or  its U.S. subsidiary to contact you for potential site information.

So how does your Economic Development Organization, your EDO, proactively identify and pursue the best opportunities?

Experienced representation

Japanese companies have proven their willingness to invest within the United States.  Your EDO benefits from our leadership’s market wisdom and relationships, whether you represent a state, county, city or economic region.

Formerly the Tokyo-based Chief Representative for the state of Kentucky,  Jiro Hashimoto leads FDI/Japan operations. Over the years, he has experienced unparalleled success in sourcing Japanese industry into the Bluegrass State – from Toyota Motor Corporation’s establishment of its Georgetown assembly plant in the 1980s to scores of suppliers starting facilities.  During his three-decade career, Jiro was instrumental in bringing more than 150 Japanese companies into the state. He is the only foreign national inducted into the Kentucky Association for Economic Development Hall of Fame.

The “Hashi” in “Hashimoto” means “bridge.”  That’s his mission – using his on-the-ground relationships and vast economic development networking experience to connect your EDO with potential project investors seeking to establish a beachhead or expand operations in America.

Getting started

Having effective and actionable market intelligence is key.

By establishing a relationship with our FDI-Japan service, your EDO gets access to a pipeline of potential projects and investment (Lead Generation), support to arrange and carry out high-level meetings (Market Interaction), and the development of a continuing relationship (Market Support). These are services successfully refined over the years to address the needs of each party.

Lead Generation

Which Japanese-based companies are looking to expand?  What are their market/location requirements? And how do you leverage your region’s unique competitive strengths?

We provide regular intelligence on potential corporate deals and how they stack up with your EDO’s interests, target industry sectors and special situations. This service is available on a subscription basis, and we can provide further background analysis at a negotiated rate.

Market Interaction

When you decide to pursue a potential investor, we can be involved as fully as you need.  We can act as an extension of your EDO, working to arrange appointments and meetings between your organization and the target company, arranging logistics and cultural/market representation or assistance.

Market Support

After initial introductions and meetings, we can provide timely representation, as needed.  Should ongoing investment promotion (or business recruitment) mission support be required, we are available for consultation and assistance on a more in-depth basis.

The Best Choice

Actionable leads.  That’s the real bottom line for success.  Our FDI service generates workable leads and provides in-market investor contact assistance – all within a reasonable and cost-effective budget.  We look forward to talking with you about developing specific, cost-effective lead programs, follow-up strategies and customized programs to fit your economic outreach strategies.
